Yarra Trams requires the services of a skilled Security Advisor to support the business in understanding and mitigating their security risk and ensure the policies, procedures, standards and processes are effectively implemented and applied throughout the business.

What the role entails

This is a great opportunity for a skilled Security Advisor to contribute to and deliver on the strategies and plans designed to improve security across the Yarra Trams network. This will enable collaboration with stakeholders to minimise the security risk to Yarra Trams passengers, employees, assets and infrastructure and ensure security systems compliance to the National Rail Safety Act.

Reporting to the Manager, Security and Business Resilience, the role involves:

  • Assisting with the development and implementation of the strategic direction of the management of security risk at an enterprise level, supporting first line defence, compliance frameworks and activities.
  • Coordinating, reviewing and undertaking continuous improvement in the internal security management plans, procedures and processes designed to develop the business capability to mitigate security risk and compliance to the National Rail Safety Act.
  • Managing security occurrences in accordance with the Yarra Trams Security Program and the National Rail Safety Act.
  • Working with cross-functional departments to ensure relevant security occurrences are investigated and managed
  • Actively implementing, promoting and supporting the Yarra Trams Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Providing support and feedback to Yarra Trams management on security mitigation systems.
  • Project management of Security initiatives in accordance with Yarra Trams systems and processes.
  • Monitoring the quality and effectiveness of the Security Program by conducting regular audits, surveys, and investigations in support of the regulator

What you will need for this role

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant university degree and/or professional qualifications or experience.
  • A Lead Auditor Qualification;
  • Experience in leading security programs, preferably in the transport industry
  • An excellent understanding of risk methodology with experience in implementing risk management within an operational workplace
  • Demonstrated experience in the application and understanding of legislation, standards, etc.
  • Experience in writing, developing security plans, procedures and processes
  • Proven experience in conducting risk assessments, audits and task observations
  • Proven knowledge and extensive experience of operating in an integrated SMS environment
  • Must demonstrate proven advocacy skills pertaining to implementation of security measures within a large and complex organisation
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Experience in leading others
  • Must possess well developed interpersonal and conflict resolution skills and the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders
  • Must be skilled in coaching, supporting and educating managers.
  • Must be skilled in Microsoft software: Project, Visio, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Must be medically fit to perform the functions of the position (mandatory).
