Keolis Downer is the proud operator of Yarra Trams, the oldest and largest light rail network in the world. Since 2009, Keolis Downer has significantly invested in Melbourne’s tram network and community. In September last year, the Victorian Government has awarded Keolis Downer the contract to run Yarra Trams until at least 2024. To deliver on these exciting new challenges, Yarra Trams requires the services of an experienced Safety Manager to support the implementation and effective application of our safety standards, assurance and quality processes within the Yarra Trams.

What the role entails
This position is a great opportunity for an experienced Safety Manager to develop a generative and risk aware safety culture throughout Yarra Trams by leading and continuously improving the safety standards and assurance aspects of the Yarra Trams Safety Management System. Reporting to the Director, Safety and Security, this role involves:
• Designing, managing and implementing the risk based corporate audit program, including on-going improvement of audit and task observation tools, techniques and methodologies appropriate for Yarra Trams;
• Advising managers in the use and compliance with the required audit, task observation and verification processes;
• Managing and reporting safety data in order to provide basis for management decision making and prioritisation;
• Maintaining the single point of contact for communications with external investigation and regulatory agencies such as the Office of the Chief Investigator, the Rail Safety Regulator (Transport Safety Victoria) and WorkSafe Victoria.
• Maintaining Standards; ISO 14001, AS 4801 & 9001
• Corporate reporting to internal and external parties
• Quality Assurance
• Ensuring the Safety and Risk Governance Framework is applied throughout the business
• Continual improvement of the Safety Management System

What you will need for this role
To be successful in this opportunity, you will have:
• Tertiary qualifications in a Risk, Assurance or Engineering and extensive proven experience in at least two of these disciplines;
• Proven knowledge and extensive experience of operating in an SMS environment;
• Extensive experience in managing complex integrated safety programs;
• Demonstrable experience in establishing and maintaining compliance with legislation, standards or a similar discipline;
• Experience in designing audit programs and conducting safety/quality audits in an SMS environment;
• Proven advocacy and promotional skills pertaining to systems and process development within a large and complex organisation.
