In September last year, the Victorian Government has awarded Keolis Downer the contract to run Yarra Trams until at least 2024. To deliver on these exciting new challenges, we’re looking for an ambitious, innovative and dynamic communications and engagement practitioner to help enhance and protect the company’s reputation with key stakeholders and the wider community. The successful applicant will join a high-performing department of public affairs professionals at a time of transformation. The successful applicant will lead a team in developing and delivering external and internal communications strategies, and advise on strategic stakeholder engagement to help meet the business meet its objectives.
What the role entailsThis position is a great opportunity for an experienced Communications and Engagement Manager to work with an iconic brand, to ensure a strategic approach to generating advocacy for the business’ objectives and safeguarding its reputation amongst key stakeholders.
Reporting to the Director, Public Affairs and Sustainability, the role involves:• Developing and monitoring processes to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the communication team;• Developing and implementing internal, corporate and media communications strategies that clarify what we will say, through which channels, to what end, and evaluating these activities for effectiveness;• Developing and optimising external and internal communications channels and collateral, and creating compelling corporate communication collateral and materials;• Providing strategic advice and support to the executive team for external engagement activities that meet the objectives of the business plan, focusing on the needs of the CEO;• Identifying issues and proactively managing relationships with Public Transport Victoria (PTV) and the media;• Coordinating Partnerships and Sustainability reporting and visualisations;• Delivering annual stakeholder research to understand and track the health of our relationships.
What you will need for this roleTo be successful in this role, you will have:• Tertiary qualifications and/or experience in PR, communications or a related field;• Success in mid-senior level roles in corporate, government and/or public transport organisations;• Success in managing issues and crisis situations at a senior level;• Proven experience building and managing high performing teams; • A high-level understanding of the state political context, and proven success in influencing it;• In depth experience working with the media in an issue rich environment; • Proven experience in providing advice, support and detailed briefings in complex stakeholder environments;• Success in delivering proactive, positive communications to meet business requirements in an issues rich and complex environment;• Experience in developing organisational stakeholder engagement strategy and implementation plans that manage risks and opportunities for ensuring successful engagement;• Strong written and verbal communication; • Resilience and the ability to perform under pressure.
We’re seeking a manager who is bold, resilient, agile and responsive. The successful applicant will be required to participate in an on-call roster, supporting out-of-hours media enquiries and incident response.
