To deliver on these exciting new challenges, Yarra Trams requires the services of an experienced Principal Electrical Systems Engineer to lead the electrical engineering aspects of Rolling Stock to ensure the relevant rolling stock standards apply to new equipment installation, engineering changes/improvements, new equipment/asset procurement, capital works, asset improvement works, and other rolling stock activities.
What the role entailsThis position is a great opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer to ensure the highest level of quality and safety on trams to make sure they can operate safely, reliably and within industry and engineering best practice and standards.
Reporting to the Manager, Rolling Stock Engineering & Projects, the role involves:• Providing electrical designs, drawings, technical documentation, testing procedures and calculations as required;• Coordinating the work flows of Electrical Engineering requirements to ensure completion of tasks in an efficient and timely manner;• Providing subject matter expertise for all electrical engineering issues ensuring modifications and repair strategies are well documented and concise;• Liaising with external design organisations as required to ensure electrical modifications and repair strategies align with industry standards;• Optimising maintenance and operational requirements to meet stakeholder design expectations;• Providing guidance and support for the completion of complex root cause analysis and problem solving of highly technical issues;• Providing subject matter expert input into corporate safety systems;• Providing highly technical and specialised reports on complex engineering topics as required; • Representing Yarra Trams’ Rolling Stock Engineering at internal and external stakeholder meetings as required.
What you will need for this roleTo be successful in this role, you will have:• A degree in Engineering (Electronics/Electrical/ Mechatronics); • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia to allow approvals as engineering/design authority (or currently in process of obtaining);• Proven extensive experience in a large engineering environment with a focus on systems engineering, design and development, manufacturing/production, verification and validation and through-life support;• Knowledge of maintenance activities with a large multi-disciplined transport fleet;• Strong proven knowledge and experience in conducting and leading complex engineering root cause investigations; • Proven experience in delivering complex rolling stock engineering projects through entire engineering and project lifecycle; • Knowledge and proven experience in systems engineering and systems thinking;• Proven experience in preparing tender documents, completing tender evaluations and recommendation reports for complex engineering projects;• Strong focus on service quality and results including both safety and customer service;• Competence in the use of PC’s, Microsoft Office and Maintenance Management Systems;• Must hold current Victorian Driver’s licence.
