About this job
Keolis Downer is the proud operator of Yarra Trams, the oldest and largest light rail network in the world. Since 2009, Keolis Downer has significantly invested in Melbourne’s tram network and community. In September last year, the Victorian Government has awarded Keolis Downer the contract to run Yarra Trams until at least 2024. This is an exciting time for the team at Yarra Trams as we deliver our new franchise term.

In the next six years we will continue to bring our international expertise to Melbourne to ensure we continue to deliver even better, safer, more reliable passenger services and performance, while increasing the value of the tram network for Melburnians and the thousands of visitors to our city every day.

To deliver on these exciting new challenges, Yarra Trams requires the services of an experienced Community Engagement Manager to lead the day to day management of stakeholder and community communications and engagement associated with the planning and delivery of the Yarra Trams Projects Portfolio.

What the role entails
This position is a great opportunity for an experienced Communications Manager to ensure the efficient and effective communication and engagement with stakeholders and community regarding projects through meeting the associated obligations under our Franchise Agreement and Trams Projects Module.

Reporting to the Director, Projects, the role involves:
• Providing expert stakeholder communications and engagement guidance, support and advice across a broad range of assigned projects within the Yarra Trams projects portfolio including Major Projects, Infrastructure Projects and Maintenance & Renewals;
• Representing Yarra Trams in project governance forums such as Project Delivery Groups (PDG) with project sponsor/client organisations;
• Providing input into project reports for clients summarising key issues and strategically advising on best outcomes;
• Identifying, mitigating and managing reputational risks, including information sharing and escalation to leadership teams and Public Affairs;
• Developing and continuously improving a standard Project Community Engagement process and workflow aligned with the Project Management System, Public Affairs requirements and other Yarra Trams corporate business systems;
• Monitoring effectiveness of community and stakeholder engagement related to the Project activities including development of strategies for continuous improvement.

What you will need for this role
To be successful in this role, you will have:
• Tertiary qualifications and/or senior level experience stakeholder engagement and/or project communications;
• Demonstrable experience in complex project stakeholder engagement strategies and communication in line with industry best practice;
• Proven experience and leadership in senior level in government, infrastructure delivery and/or public transport organisation;
• Experience in risk and issue identification and management, including high profile and sensitive community issues;
• Well-developed skills to build relationships of trust and cooperation with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders;
• Strong verbal and written communications, including external facing documents for community and stakeholder use, as well as internal documents for senior management;
• Strong relationship building, issues management, decision-making influencing and negotiation skills.
