Keolis Downer is the proud operator of Yarra Trams, the oldest and largest light rail network in the world. Since 2009, Keolis Downer has significantly invested in Melbourne’s tram network and community. In September last year, the Victorian Government has awarded Keolis Downer the contract to run Yarra Trams until at least 2024. This is an exciting time for the team at Yarra Trams as we begin delivery of our new franchise term.

In the next six years we will continue to bring our international expertise to Melbourne to ensure we continue to deliver even better, safer, more reliable passenger services and performance, while increasing the value of the tram network for Melburnians and the thousands of visitors to our city every day.

To deliver on these exciting new challenges, Yarra Trams requires the services of an experienced professional to Support the Manager Passenger Experience and Accessibility in the provision of advice as well as delivery and monitoring of initiatives for ongoing improvements to the accessibility of the tram network.

What the role entails

This position is a great opportunity for an experienced professional to increase customer satisfaction through providing seamless, accessible, consistent and continuously enhanced journey experiences to our passengers, and to ensure that Yarra Trams meets and exceeds its Franchise commitments in relation to accessibility.

Reporting to the Manager, Passenger Experience and Accessibility, the role involves:

  • Coordinating key projects as part of Yarra Trams’ commitment to accessibility under the Franchise Agreement;
  • Representing Yarra Trams at accessibility related industry and stakeholder forums;
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the Accessibility Action Plan;
  • Developing and facilitating internal training;
  • Monitoring project delivery of accessibility related initiatives;
  • Reviewing operational plans and providing feedback on planned occupations, to ensure that accessible outcomes are maintained;
  • Identifying and recommending opportunities and initiatives to improve accessibility and compliance within Yarra Trams;
  • Organising and participating in user testing and consultation;
  • Coordinating activities with accessibility groups including depot visits and educational activities;
  • Assisting as required in advising and ensuring compliance with Accessibility and associated Standards;
  • Participating in Yarra Trams quarterly Accessibility Reference Group meetings.

What you will need for this role

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A proven track record of experience in a customer focussed environment;
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills;
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strategic relationships;
  • Strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to adapt the level of communication to the audience to influence others;
  • Proven ability to manage difficult and complex tasks within tight timeframes and several projects at one time;
  • Competence in the use of PC’s, Microsoft Office and other role specific software packages.
  • An understanding of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002 is an advantage:
  • Experience working with accessibility matters is an advantage;
